صحيفة المرصد: أوضح المشرف على مركز الدراسات الزلزالية في جامعة الملك سعود الدكتور عبد الله العمري أن الحيوانات تستشعر بالزلازل قبل وقوعها بساعات من خلال الصوت والشم.

وقال خلال لقاء له مع قناة "الإخبارية":" قبل حدوث الزلزال بساعات أو بيوم كامل، يحدث صوت مثل صوت الثعبان على بعد 30 أو 40 كيلو في باطن الأرض، والحيوانات مثل الكلاب والقطط تستطيع السماع على هذه المسافة".

وأضاف: هناك نوع آخر من الحيوانات لديهم حاسة شم، يستطيعون التعرف على غاز يتسبب فيه الزلزال، أثناء الاحتكاك بين الصخور يسمى غاز الرادون والهيليوم، لافتا إلى أن الحيوانات لا تتقبله وتبدأ تخرج من الأرض.
